Carrots & Beets

The farmers market in Portland, Oregon had several booths in which the produce was beautifully presented. I couldn’t help but to take a few photos. This painting is based on one of those photos. The deep shadows and contrasting colors and shapes are great, but what really makes this piece work, to me, are the sprawling roots.
